Framework & Regulations
The Senate of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, after the formal proposal submitted by the Assembly of the School of Law, approved at its meeting No. 3167 held on 8 October 2025, approved the establishment and operation of a new foreign-language undergraduate study program entitled “Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)” within the Faculty of Law. This decision was taken after careful consideration of the applicable Greek legislation governing higher education, as well as the formal proposal submitted by the Assembly of the School of Law.
The International “Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)” programme starting in the fall semester of the academic year 2026–2027 is designed to provide high-quality legal education in English, with the aim of attracting international students and promoting the internationalisation of legal studies at the university. The establishment of the programme reflects the broader strategic objective of strengthening the international academic presence of the university and enhancing its competitiveness within the European and global higher education environment.
Approved by the Senate of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on 24 October 2025 (Protocol No. 17274), the Internal Regulation of the Programme outlines the framework governing the undergraduate study programme. The programme constitutes the first cycle of higher education and leads to the award of a Bachelor’s degree (Level 6), in accordance with the National and European Qualifications Frameworks.
The Internal Regulation framework is established in compliance with Law 4957/2022, particularly the provisions concerning the organisation of undergraduate studies and foreign-language undergraduate programmes. It is further aligned with the university’s internal regulations to ensure full consistency with the current institutional and legal framework.
The International LL.B. offered by the Faculty of Law of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is a four-year, first-cycle undergraduate programme leading to the award of a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). The programme focuses on legal science, with Greek law as its main reference point, while adopting a comparative-law perspective and placing particular emphasis on European Union law, international law, and the theoretical, historical, and practical dimensions of legal studies.
Its main purpose is to provide high-quality legal education to an international audience, promoting legal analysis, critical thinking, comparative reasoning, and intercultural communication. Students gain comprehensive knowledge across major legal fields, develop analytical and academic skills, and become familiar with both Continental and Common Law traditions.
The programme prepares graduates for postgraduate and doctoral studies, as well as for professional careers requiring advanced legal expertise. The degree awarded is academically equivalent to law degrees offered by Greek higher education institutions and comparable LL.B. degrees from international universities.
The Complaints and Appeals Mechanism of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki establishes a structured framework for handling complaints and appeals submitted by students and doctoral candidates, aiming to improve the quality of academic and administrative services through transparency, integrity, and a student-centered approach.
The mechanism applies to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students and addresses issues such as academic disputes, inappropriate staff behaviour, inadequate guidance, discrimination, harassment, and other violations of institutional regulations. Students are encouraged to first seek support from their Academic Advisor or the Student Ombudsman, depending on the nature of the issue.
The procedure consists of three stages: direct resolution through informal discussion with academic or administrative staff, formal mediation and administrative review involving the Academic Advisor, Student Ombudsman, or Dean of the Faculty, and finally appeal to the Faculty Assembly, whose decision is final. Students must submit complaints in writing according to the authorized form, and they are entitled to receive a written response within 30 days.
The regulation also ensures full compliance with personal data protection rules and assigns responsibility for its proper implementation to the Faculty Assembly or Programme Steering Committee, ensuring fairness, accountability, and effective resolution of student concerns.
The Academic Advisor Regulation of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki establishes the framework for providing academic guidance and support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, aiming to facilitate the successful completion of their studies and help them achieve their educational and professional goals.
Academic Advisors are appointed by each Faculty’s Assembly at the beginning of every academic year and are assigned to students throughout the duration of their studies. Their role includes offering guidance on curriculum planning, course selection, thesis topics, academic regulations, and career opportunities, while also supporting students in addressing academic or personal challenges that may affect their progress.
In addition, Academic Advisors monitor students’ academic development, encourage participation in educational and research activities, and facilitate communication with university services such as counselling, internships, and student support offices. They may also examine complaints and appeals and assist in finding appropriate solutions.
Students are expected to actively cooperate with their Academic Advisor, attend scheduled meetings, and remain informed about programme requirements. The regulation also ensures strict confidentiality and personal data protection, while requiring Academic Advisors to submit annual reports to improve the effectiveness of the advisory process and identify areas for institutional improvement.
The Research Ethics and Conduct Regulation of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki establishes the principles and procedures governing research ethics within the university. Developed by the Research Committee, it defines the ethical values and standards that apply to all research activities conducted under the institution’s responsibility.
The regulation outlines the procedures for submitting research proposals to the Research Ethics Committee, including the required supporting documentation, evaluation processes, and cooperation with other ethics and bioethics committees, both within the university and at the national level. It was drafted in accordance with relevant Greek legislation and aims to ensure integrity, reliability, quality, and ethical compliance in research practices.
Its provisions apply to all research and development activities carried out by members of the university, whether on or off campus and regardless of funding source. This also includes specialized scientific services, training programmes, and related developmental activities.
The regulation covers a broad range of researchers, including academic staff, doctoral candidates, postgraduate students, degree holders, and any other individuals involved in research activities, ensuring that all research conducted at the university adheres to consistent ethical and professional standards.
